Corrugated box styles and their unique qualities

Think of a box and the only one that flashes across the mind is the corrugated box which can be used for shipping anything under the sky. Be it from the consumer’s perspective or that from the viewpoint of the manufacturer, corrugated boxes are convenient, durable, eco-friendly, economical and above all versatile. Corrugated boxes come in different styles and these can be segregated as:

1.      Slotted boxes: Such corrugated boxes are made from a single piece of fibreboard called a blank. The blanks are slotted and scored for convenience while folding.  Slotted boxes are divided into different styles depending on the lengths of the inner and outer flaps and these are:

·         Regular slotted container finds usage in manufacturing as it results in minimal wastage

·         Half slotted container has one set of flaps missing.

·         Overlap slotted container is the best fit for the products in which the length is more than the width.

·         Full overlap slotted container enhances stacking potential and provides extra cushioning.

·         Centre special slotted container enhances the integrity of the box and renders it more stable.

·         Centre special overlap slotted container provides a levelled base to the box.

·         Centre special full overlap slotted container has an edge over the other styles because of the highest level of cushioning provided in this style.

·         1-2-3 bottom or snap-lock style serves the purpose for small companies dealing in lightweight products.

2.      Telescope boxes: Boxes with covers or telescope boxes are two separate units. One part is the lid and the other is the bottom in which the lid extends past at least 2/3rd the depth of the bottom. These boxes also come in different styles and these are:

·         Design style container with a cover.

·         A double cover container is superb for heavy objects.

·         The interlocking double cover container is ideal for products like washing machines, refrigerators, dryers etc.

·         The octagonal double cover container is good for the products that need a round-shaped box instead of a square or a rectangular one.

3.      Folders: In this, the bottom is unbroken while the three sides are scored for folding the merchandise. These boxes come in different styles like:

·         Five-panel folder

·         Wrap around blank

·         One-piece folder with dust flaps and tuck flaps

·         Roll end tray
